Most cervical cancers are caused by the Human Papillomavirus (HPV), a virus passed from person to person.

How Do We Prevent It?<\/strong><\/h3>

There are two powerful tools that can protect Sri Lankan women, both young and old.<\/p>

1. HPV Vaccination
<\/strong>This vaccine protects against the virus that causes most cervical cancers.
It is safe, effective, and recommended for girls aged 10 to 16.
Boys can receive it too, to help protect future partners and themselves.
In Sri Lanka, it\u2019s available for free through school-based programs and public health clinics.<\/p>

2. Cervical Screening (Pap Smear)
<\/strong>A simple test that checks for abnormal cells in the cervix.
Women aged 30 to 60 should get screened every 5 years or as advised.
It takes just minutes and could save decades of life.<\/p>
